Pan’s Labyrinth was written and directed by Mexican film-maker Guillermo del Toro and was produced and distributed by the Mexican film company Esperanto Films.

Del Toro takes the horror of two worlds (one real, one imagined, each with their own monsters), creating a rich and violent film.  The Spanish spoken in this foreign film adds another dimension to the fantasy – usually reading in subtitles can be a little slow or annoying for me, but I enjoyed Pan’s Labyrinth more in Spanish than I think I would’ve in English.

Pan’s Labyrinth has been considered an adult fairy-tale, and I couldn’t agree more.  Certain parts can be hard to watch at times (gruesome violence) and some people might have a tough time forgetting a couple of the fantastical creatures.  I haven’t watched a whole lot of foreign films, but Pan’s Labyrinth takes the cake.  Amazing storyline, acting, visuals, and cinematography – what more could you ask?.  You’ll want to keep watching it again and again.
