Sandstorm

sandstormI created Sandstorm for the current Materials and Terrain Challenge on C3D: Aftermath. Since I won the last M&T challenge, Aftermath was my idea and we’ve gotten a good amount of entries. Voting starts tomorrow.

The point of the challenge Aftermath, was to create the aftermath of a natural disaster.

To start, I created an ecosystem of Dystopia City blocks. I then sculpted a dune terrain in the terrain editor and placed it in the city. The Blackhawk helicopters are imports from Poser. I made a huge sphere and placed it right over the city, turned the transparency all the way up on the sphere, and created an ecosystem of helicopters. This was something I had wanted to try for a while. It was quite tough getting the density and scale correct, but eventually it worked out.

In Photoshop, I smudged around some of the dunes to simulate blowing sand. Then I blurred the image slightly.
