The Watchers

Once defenders of the great and glorious realm of the Free Peoples, the Watchers strove endlessly to halt evil and bring everlasting peace to their country. Just when light shown the brightest, a great evil came from the West, destroying everything in its path. At its head was the most feared Black Queen. Her army was made up of the fowlest creatures that ever roamed the land: hideous beasts that knew no death, armed with crude weapons, bent upon destroying all that lived.

The black wave spread quickly over the realm of the Free Peoples. The Watchers, however, met the blackness in battle on the eve of the same day they were freed from tyranny hundreds of years ago. They marched into battle singing songs of deliverance. But for all their fighting and strategy, the Watchers’ army crumbled before the Black Queen, forcing them to flee into the hills.

It was said that the Watchers knew everything that went on around them. It was true until this day. For the Black Queen sent a second surprise force from the East, converging blackness upon blackness. The land lay in ruin. The Free Peoples were defeated. All who did not die a merciless death were sent into slavery. The Watchers were tortured for countless weeks. After many months, any slave still alive did not remember anything about their previous life. The Watchers turned into pitiless, deformed creatures, sent to guard the High Pass, now the only way into the Black Queen’s domain.

All that was good, all that was true and just, was lost in darkness.

watchersI created the Watchers for a Poser Challenge on C3D called, “Creature Creations”. The point of this challenge is to create your own custom character in Poser using morphs, props, combining figures, etc.. I’ve never really created a whole creature before (including textures), so I did alot of experimenting.

I started off with the James G2 character from Content Paradise. The first thing I worked on was the shape of the head and face features. I had many options to mess around with and I finally came up with one I wanted. Next, I mesomorphed James’ body into a stronger, leaner body.

For the textures, I used James G2’s default texture to begin with in Photoshop, and customized it from there. I painted on some different patterns and applied a few filters to them.

After I had created my figure and posed it in Poser, I imported it into Vue. I built my environment around the figure with this story idea in mind.

It took about 3 days to create the custom character, a couple hours to create an environment in Vue, and about an hour to render. Enjoy!
