4th Day of Christmas:
The latest challenge on C3D in the Poser Forum was called, “The Great Masters”. The point of this challenge was to recreate a famous painting inside of Vue and Poser. Not an easy task.
While looking through an art book one day, I came across “The Turtle Pound” by Winslow Homer. Since the main focus was on Poser (in the Poser Forum), I thought that this painting would work great for the challenge.
This challenge was perfect for me, as I usually don’t spend alot of time posing my characters for a scene. I took me a very long time (because I couldn’t use any preset poses). After a while, I got kinda annoyed with how long it was taking, because I just couldn’t quite get it.
But finally I did it. I then imported each character into Vue separately , and began my scene work. I modeled the white-washed boat in the scene by myself with Vue primitives, and spent a while texturing it. For the waves, I created one procedural terrain (look at Spring Heights) and applied a water texture to it. I set the characters one by one into the water and boat, played with the lighting, and then rendered it.
In Photoshop, I added a customized watercolor filter, painted outlines over some of the areas that needed bringing out, and typed my signature.
Overall, this challenge was quite hard (and challenging), but I learned alot more of Poser’s ins and outs – so it was well worth it.
“The Great Masters” challenge is now over, and the winners are:
- Old Guitarist – Pablo Picasso – Lacy Choate (Original)
- The Geographer – Jan Vermeer – Michael Hale (Original)
- Saint Joseph Charpentier – Georges de La Tour – Lili (Original)
That is really good, Brady!
Personally, I think that yours was a lot better then the winners, but that’s just my personal opinion.
Nice job, Brady! It looks a lot like the painting.
Amazing what you did in Poser! M
