Cavendish Cove is my entry for the Pirates! Summer Contest at C3D. I wanted to create an image that would be different from other entries (like ship wreaks, pirates drinking in taverns, etc.), and so I created this pirate lair. I set up the scene with a couple of standard terrains, added some tropical water with waves, and some palm trees. The atmosphere lighting was a little harder to create than usual, as I wanted to match the sky color with the map color. I rendered the cove and then rendered another image of just the map. Moving to Photoshop, I spent alot of time integrating these two images together.
I named Cavendish Cove after the most feared raider of the Spanish in the Pacific – Thomas Cavendish (or Candish).
