Primitive Ruins

the_ruinsthe_ruins_notexSince this image has lots of interesting effects and textures, it took quite a while to create. What is kind of cool about this scene is that all of the ruins that you’ll see in the final picture, are actually primitive objects (squares, cylinders, pyramids, cones) which I added alot of texturing to. The effects in this scene (smoke and fire) also take the form of primitive objects. I want to show you my scene first with no textures (the way I saw it while working on it). After rendering it, a heap of smoldering rubble, the Ruins, has taken the place of the non-textured shapes.

  1. Cool! Did you know what you wanted to make and then collect the shapes for it or did you collect the shapes and then come up with what you wanted to create?

  2. That is really absolutely amazing!

  3. Actually I knew that I wanted a ruined city of some sort but really didn’t know how to go about it. So I just played around with textures and primitives (found some cool effects on the way) and went from there.
